Corrections Policy
We work hard to get every fact right. When we get something wrong, we correct it promptly and say so.
How to report an error
Use our contact form and choose "Report an error". Please include the link to the story and tell us what is wrong. If you can, also tell us where the correct information can be found. An editor reviews every report.
How we correct
- Factual errors, such as a wrong name, title, figure, date or claim, are fixed in the story. We add a correction note at the end of the story saying what was wrong and when it was fixed.
- Serious errors that change the meaning of a story are fixed in the same way. The correction note appears at the top of the story.
- Minor errors of spelling, grammar or style that do not change the meaning are fixed without a note.
- Updates: when a story develops, we add new information and show the time of the update next to the editor's name.
Removing stories
We do not remove published stories simply because someone dislikes them. We will remove or change a story only if it is seriously wrong and cannot be corrected, if it breaks the law, or if it puts someone in danger. When we do, we say so on the page.
