Afghanistan's Sediqullah Atal Shines Ahead of 2027 Cricket World Cup
Afghanistan batter Sediqullah Atal is in top form ahead of the 2027 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said in a statement.
Afghanistan's 25-year-old left-handed batter Sediqullah Atal is making waves ahead of the 2027 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, scoring his third ODI century against Zimbabwe in Abu Dhabi on Monday, leading Afghanistan to a 158-run victory in their tri-series, International Cricket Council (ICC) reported.
This century has boosted his average to over 100 across his last three 50-over knocks. Earlier this month, he made history by becoming the first Afghan player to score a century in the fourth innings of a Test match, scoring 111 against Bangladesh to help his team salvage a draw.
Sediqullah expressed his happiness with his current form, saying "I'm quite happy with the way I'm going these days."
He attributed his success to hard work and his partnership with experienced players like Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran.
Sediqullah and Zadran recently shared a 140-run partnership against Zimbabwe, helping their team post a match-winning total. Sediqullah said of his partnership with Zadran, "We have very good communication with each other and we know each other very well."
The 2027 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup will be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, according to ICC.
Sediqullah has become a regular fixture in Afghanistan's top-order lineup this year, alongside experienced players Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran.
He made his international debut during the 2023 50-over World Cup in India but had to wait until the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy to make his first appearance at a senior ICC event.
There, he showed glimpses of his talent with an impressive 85-run innings against Australia in Lahore.
Afghanistan's rise in international cricket has been notable in recent years, with players like Sediqullah Atal contributing to the team's success.
The 2027 World Cup presents an opportunity for the team to make a significant impact on the world stage.
