Australian wicketkeeper-batters Josh Inglis and Alex Carey formed a 185-run partnership in the third Test against South Africa, showcasing different batting styles, Cricket Australia said in a statement.
Inglis and Carey, both counter-attacking stroke-makers, displayed contrasting approaches on the same surface in Cape Town.
Carey was cautious, reaching his half-century off 125 deliveries, his slowest career innings, while Inglis aggressively targeted spin, smashing a reverse sweep for his century.
The duo targeted opposite sides of the wicket against pace bowlers, with Carey scoring 40% of his runs through the covers and Inglis waiting for straight balls to work through the leg-side.
This partnership helped Australia in the third Test, with Inglis becoming the latest Australian to flourish in the fifth batting spot, following in the footsteps of Matthew Renshaw and others.
In the past two years, Australian No.5 batsmen have scored twice as many Test centuries as any other batting position, with Travis Head, Cameron Green, Steve Smith, and Carey all scoring tons from that position.
The third Test is part of the Australian cricket team's tour of South Africa, with the second Test won by South Africa and the third Test played from October 27-31 at Newlands, Cape Town.
