Counter Terrorism Department arrests 8 suspected terrorists in Punjab, recovers explosives and prohibited material.
The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Punjab has arrested eight suspected terrorists in intelligence-based operations across the province, semi-official APP reported Saturday.
The CTD conducted 91 operations in different districts of Punjab, questioning 91 individuals. The arrested suspects were from banned outfits, and explosives, hand grenades, and other prohibited material were recovered.
The CTD spokesperson provided the details of the operations, which aimed to prevent possible terrorist activities.
The arrests were made during a period of heightened security measures in the region.
The arrests highlight ongoing efforts to prevent terrorist activities in Punjab, a key province in Pakistan.
The development comes a day after the security forces killed the mastermind of the Kohat police lines suicide attack in an intelligence-based operation. The attack that took place on Sept 18 killed 17 police officials and 6 civilians, according to the Counter-Terrorism Department of the KP police.
The slain terrorist, namely Zahid Gul, had also planned an attack on the new Kohat Police Lines about two months ago, which was foiled. A Pakistan Air Force installation and the Police Training School in Kohat were among his next targets, the statement said.
Other members of the network are already in the custody of security agencies, the CTD said.
