Doosan to spend 550 billion won on China copper laminate expansion
The new production line will sit on a 185,000-square-meter site beside an existing plant and begin operating in the second half of 2028.
South Korean conglomerate Doosan Group has earmarked about 550 billion won ($405.4 million) to widen its copper-clad laminate plant capacity in China on Friday, South Korea's national news agency Yonhap reported.
The company signed an investment pact on Thursday with the city of Changshu in China's Jiangsu Province to build a production line on a 185,000-square-meter site next to its current factory.
The spending will be phased in through 2028, with the new facility expected to start operations in the second half of that year.
The project is part of a wider 970 billion-won plan that Doosan unveiled in September to increase laminate output for artificial intelligence infrastructure.
Copper-clad laminate is a core material in printed circuit boards, which are used in AI accelerators, network switches and optical modules inside data centers.
Officials from Doosan and Changshu attended the signing ceremony at Suzhou City Hall on Nov. 5, the company said in its announcement.
Demand for AI data centers has pushed hardware suppliers across Asia to add production capacity for components that feed into servers and networking equipment.
Doosan is one of South Korea's large conglomerates, with businesses spanning several industries, and its electronics materials operations supply the global technology sector.
