Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) has hosted the 52nd annual conference of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Industrial Electronics Society, the first time the event has taken place in the Middle East, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported on Thursday.

Over four days, the conference attracted some 2,000 research papers and gathered prominent scientists, engineers, and industry specialists to examine recent developments in industrial electronics and emerging technologies.

The program spanned power electronics, smart grids, artificial intelligence, robotics, cybersecurity, and Industry 5.0, with discussions centered on boosting industrial efficiency, incorporating renewable energy, and making critical infrastructure more resilient. Participants engaged through keynote addresses, technical sessions, industry panels, tutorials, and workshops, reviewing new research and exploring how it might be put into practice.

Dr. Eyad Ahmad Masad, HBKU’s vice-president for research, highlighted the vital role research universities play in turning scientific progress into real-world solutions.

Dr. Mounir Hamdi, dean of the university’s College of Science and Engineering, said that hosting the event demonstrates HBKU’s dedication to connecting high-quality research with the challenges that will shape Qatar’s future.

The conference is expected to expand HBKU’s ties with the global engineering community and foster closer collaboration between Qatar’s research institutions and its industrial sector.

It also supports national priorities in sustainability, digital transformation, and economic diversification, advancing the country’s shift toward a sustainable, knowledge-based economy under Qatar National Vision 2030.

The event forms part of HBKU’s wider strategy of building cross-sector partnerships to drive research and innovation in support of Qatar’s economic growth.

With its emphasis on applied engineering research and industry collaboration, the university is positioned to make a meaningful contribution to the nation’s industrial development.

As one of the leading gatherings in industrial electronics, the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society conference has drawn renewed attention to HBKU’s rising profile as a regional hub for research and innovation.
