Jordan's King Abdullah II and Iraqi President Nazar Amedi had a phone conversation on Monday to discuss the evolving regional situation and ways to strengthen bilateral relations.

King Abdullah emphasized the need for de-escalation in the region to ensure the security and stability of Arab nations and their peoples. He also stressed that Israeli actions in the West Bank, Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip must cease. The King reemphasized the importance of supporting Syria and Lebanon's efforts to safeguard their security, stability, and sovereignty. The leaders also discussed the implementation of the Basra-Aqaba oil pipeline project, which would benefit both countries, Qatar News Agency (QNA) said in a statement.

The conversation between the two leaders comes amid rising tensions in the region. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been a longstanding issue, with periods of relative calm punctuated by outbreaks of violence. The Gaza Strip, in particular, has faced significant challenges, including a blockade that has had severe economic and humanitarian consequences.

The Basra-Aqaba oil pipeline project is a significant economic cooperation initiative between Iraq and Jordan. The project aims to transport oil from Iraq's Basra region to Jordan's Aqaba port, providing a new revenue stream for Iraq and helping to boost Jordan's economy. The project's implementation would have a positive impact on the economic ties between the two countries and contribute to regional stability.
