Pakistan and Singapore have agreed to enhance their collaboration in various sectors, including trade, investment, and disaster management, the state broadcaster Radio Pakistan reported.

The agreement was reached during a joint press conference between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and visiting Singaporean Foreign Minister Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan in Islamabad.

Pakistan and Singapore enjoy long-standing friendly relations, with Pakistan being one of the first countries to recognize Singapore after its independence in 1965, Ishaq Dar said.

The two countries have decided to hold regular bilateral political consultations and promote high-level exchanges to strengthen cooperation between their governments and institutions, he added.

Economic cooperation was also a key topic of discussion, with both sides welcoming the growth in bilateral trade and exploring ways to build on this progress, Ishaq Dar said.

The two countries agreed to encourage closer engagement between business communities through exchange of business delegations and stronger links between Chambers of Commerce, he said.

They also discussed cooperation in education, research, and innovation, including digital technologies and artificial intelligence, Ishaq Dar said.

The two sides agreed to deepen cooperation in human resource development, agriculture, and climate domains and to encourage greater cultural, academic, youth, and people-to-people exchanges, he added.

On regional and international issues, both sides reaffirmed the importance of dialogue and diplomacy, respect for international law, and adherence to the principles of the UN Charter, Ishaq Dar said.

He also shared Pakistan's perspective on the Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir disputes, reiterating Pakistan's support for an independent Palestinian state and a just settlement of the Kashmir dispute.

The two sides exchanged documents on a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in Disaster Management between the National Disaster Management Authority of Pakistan and the Singapore Civil Defence Force.
