Pakistan Calls for Irreversible Timeline to End Israeli Occupation, Establish Free Palestine
Pakistan demands international efforts to set a final and irreversible timeline to establish an independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders.
Pakistan has called for international efforts to focus on setting a final and irreversible timeline to establish an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with its capital in East Jerusalem.
Pakistan's Acting Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Osman Jadoon, made the statement during a Security Council meeting on the Middle East situation. He emphasized that sustainable peace in the region is impossible as long as the occupation continues and the Palestinian people are denied their right to self-determination.
The Pakistani delegate stated that the two-state solution is an internationally agreed formula and an essential foundation for a just and lasting peace. He stressed that along with international commitment to the two-state solution, concrete steps are also necessary to preserve the territorial integrity and viability of a Palestinian state.
Ambassador Jadoon demanded that all settlement activities be stopped in accordance with Resolution 2334, and that settler violence be ended and those responsible be held accountable. He also condemned provocative and illegal intrusions into the Al-Haram Al-Sharif in Al-Aqsa Mosque and demanded that the historical and legal status of holy sites be preserved.
Discussing the Gaza situation, Ambassador Jadoon said that continued ceasefire violations, the killing of Palestinians, and restrictions on humanitarian aid were exacerbating the crisis. He emphasized the need for full implementation of the ceasefire, unhindered and large-scale humanitarian aid, and the resumption of reconstruction and rebuilding efforts.
The Pakistani delegate also expressed support for the indispensable role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and rejected any attempt to forcibly displace people or divide Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, as they are part of the same territorial unit.
Ambassador Jadoon also demanded the release of frozen Palestinian revenues to enable the Palestinian Authority to fulfill its responsibilities. He condemned Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and its civilian and economic infrastructure, saying these attacks must stop immediately.
Pakistan reaffirmed its unwavering support for Saudi Arabia's security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity and endorsed its right to self-defense under international law. Ambassador Jadoon also expressed support for the efforts of the UN Special Envoy to Yemen to revive negotiations for a comprehensive and sustainable peace in Yemen.
