Pakistan PM Orders Restructuring of Livestock and Dairy Development Board
Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the restructuring of the Livestock and Dairy Development Board to boost the livestock sector, the state broadcaster Radio Pakistan reported.
The board was established in 2007 to promote livestock breeding, increase milk and meat production, and develop the sector, the state broadcaster Radio Pakistan reported.
The Prime Minister chaired a high-level meeting in Islamabad, where he instructed that the board be transformed into an effective organization with private sector experts. A plan for revamping the board is to be presented soon.
Sharif also directed that imported livestock in bonded warehouses be used for value-addition, with meat and dairy products exported after processing. He emphasized the private sector's role in uplifting the livestock sector.
The Federal Government will establish a national-level plant for modern livestock vaccines at the National Agricultural Research Centre. A strategy for the plant is to be presented within a week.
The meeting was briefed on reforms in the livestock sector, measures to increase exports, and the audit of slaughterhouses. The government is also working to produce purified livestock vaccines and establish dedicated bonded warehouses for imported livestock.
The current vaccines available for livestock in Pakistan are not approved by the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan.
The Prime Minister's directives aim to improve the livestock sector, which is a significant contributor to Pakistan's economy.
The livestock sector faces challenges, including the need for modernization and increased production of high-quality vaccines.
