Pakistan Sets Wheat Price at Rs4,500 per 40kg for 2027
Pakistan's Prime Minister sets wheat price at Rs4,500 per 40kg for 2027 to boost domestic production and support farmers.

The Pakistani government has set an illustrative price of Rs4,500 per 40 kilograms for wheat in 2027, aiming to support farmers and increase domestic production, Radio Pakistan, the state broadcaster, reported.
This price represents a Rs1,000 increase from the Rs3,500 fixed last year.
The government hopes this move will help farmers recover their production costs and earn a reasonable profit, considering rising production costs, petroleum prices, and inflation.
The decision comes after farmers faced financial difficulties due to inflation and increased agricultural input costs, leading to Pakistan importing wheat over the past two years.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed confidence that the new price will encourage farmers to cultivate more wheat, strengthening the country's food security.
He acknowledged guidance from President Asif Ali Zardari and PML-N Quaid Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, and appreciated cooperation from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.
Pakistan has been working to boost its agricultural sector, with wheat being a crucial crop. The country has faced challenges in meeting its food requirements, leading to imports in recent years.
A stable and supportive pricing mechanism is seen as essential for encouraging farmers to increase production and helping the country become more self-sufficient in food production.
The agricultural sector plays a vital role in Pakistan's economy, employing a significant portion of the workforce and contributing substantially to the country's GDP. Ensuring food security and supporting farmers are critical for the government's economic and social policies.
