Pakistan has emphasized the need for a legally binding treaty to prevent the arms race in outer space, warning that space weaponization has shifted from theory to active deployment, according to Associated Press of Pakistan (APP).

The call was made by Pakistani delegate Husham Ahmed at the United Nations, highlighting that humanity's survival is increasingly tied to orbital infrastructure.

"We must pursue a comprehensive approach that can preserve outer space as a domain free from conflict for future generations," Ahmed said.

Pakistan's push for the treaty, known as the Prevention of an Arms Race in Outer Space (PAROS), comes as the world grapples with the implications of space militarization.

The Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) reported that Pakistan's national news service has been serving the nation since 1947 and is transforming its operations into APP Digital.

Pakistan's concerns about space weaponization reflect a broader international debate about the governance of outer space and the need for cooperation to prevent an arms race.

The United Nations has been discussing the PAROS treaty for years, with various countries emphasizing the importance of preserving space as a peaceful domain.

Outer space has become increasingly critical for global communication, navigation, and weather forecasting, making its militarization a pressing concern.

Pakistan's advocacy for a legally binding treaty aims to ensure that space remains a domain free from conflict and serves the interests of all nations.
