Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has expressed optimism that a new Israeli government will pave the way for renewed peace negotiations, Anadolu Agency, Turkey's state-run news agency said in a statement.

Abbas made the comments at a news conference with Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides, where he emphasized the Palestinian leadership's commitment to peaceful resistance and pursuing rights through diplomatic means.

The Palestinian president highlighted the importance of adhering to international resolutions and principles, including UN Security Council and General Assembly resolutions, to achieve peace.

He also expressed hope that the Greek Cypriot Administration will play a supportive role in promoting peace efforts and encouraging dialogue between Palestinians and Israelis.

Abbas's remarks come as Israel's election results show no clear governing majority, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's bloc securing 53 seats and the opposition Change bloc holding 48.

The Palestinian leadership has extended its hand to the Israeli side for years in an effort to achieve peace and ensure security and stability for both parties.

Abbas's objective is not only to reach peace between Palestinians and Israelis but also to establish broader regional peace and security between Israel and its Arab and Muslim neighbors.

The Greek Cypriot leader reiterated his administration's support for resolving the Palestinian issue based on UN resolutions and stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral relations to promote regional security and stability.

Christodoulides said his administration is prepared to play an active role in supporting Palestine and addressing outstanding disputes.

The two leaders discussed conditions facing Palestinians amid continued Israeli actions in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
