Poland has been reclassified as a developed market by S&P Dow Jones Indices, reflecting its economic progress and institutional development.

Qatar's state news agency QNA reported that Poland has been upgraded to developed market status by S&P Dow Jones Indices, effective September 2027.

This reclassification is a result of Poland's sustained economic growth, macroeconomic stability, and development of its domestic capital markets, Qatar News Agency (QNA) said in a statement.

According to Qatar National Bank (QNB), Poland's economy has grown significantly, with a nominal GDP exceeding one trillion dollars, placing it among the world's 20 largest economies. The country's economic growth rate was 3.6% in 2025, accelerating to 3.9% in the second quarter of 2026.

The upgrade brings Poland's classification in line with FTSE Russell and STOXX, which reclassified Poland as a developed market in 2018. QNB attributes this upgrade to factors such as economic and political stability, financial market size and liquidity, and accessibility for foreign investors.

Poland's inward foreign direct investment stock reached approximately 345 billion dollars in 2024, equivalent to around 38% of its GDP. The country's capital markets have also strengthened, with the Warsaw Stock Exchange's WIG20 index delivering a total return of 30.8% through early September 2026.

The reclassification could broaden Poland's investor base and lower financing costs, according to QNB. However, the country's longer-term outlook will depend partly on efforts to rein in public spending and secure further recognition from MSCI.
