The State of Qatar has called for increased global cooperation to address the significant risks arising from the misuse of information and communication technology (ICT).

Qatar's state news agency QNA reported that rapid developments in digital transformation, including artificial intelligence applications, demand a robust ICT infrastructure that strengthens cybersecurity and ensures the protection of critical facilities providing essential services.

A member of the Qatari delegation, Abdullah Nasser Al Kaabi, delivered a statement at the UN General Assembly's First Committee during its 81st session.

He emphasized the vital role of the National Cyber Security Agency of the State of Qatar, established in 2021 to maintain and regulate cybersecurity and safeguard the state's vital interests against cyber threats.

The National Cyber Security Academy, a center of excellence for cybersecurity, contributes to capacity building and empowerment of professionals in the sector.

Qatar underlined the importance of a global mechanism on ICT developments within the context of international security and promoting responsible state behavior in using such technology.

Qatar expressed support for the mechanism's work and activities, emphasizing the need to maintain its intergovernmental nature and ensure states lead its proceedings.

The misuse of ICT poses significant risks to international peace and security, and Qatar's efforts to address these challenges are crucial in the current digital landscape.

The rapid growth of digital technologies has created new opportunities for economic and social development, but it also raises concerns about cybersecurity threats and the potential for malicious actors to exploit vulnerabilities.

In this context, Qatar's commitment to strengthening its cybersecurity infrastructure and promoting international cooperation is essential for maintaining global peace and security.
