Rabada Set to Return for South Africa in Second Test Against Australia
Kagiso Rabada to play his first competitive match in 4.5 months in the second Test against Australia, Cricket Australia said.
South Africa is set to include Kagiso Rabada in its lineup for the second Test against Australia, after the fast bowler missed the first Test due to a hamstring strain. Rabada has been cleared by the fitness team and bowled at full capacity in training, Cricket Australia reported.
He has an impressive Test record against Australia, taking 58 wickets at 21.39. South Africa captain Temba Bavuma confirmed Rabada's availability, saying he would be a 'big addition and boost to the team on the field.'
Rabada's return could lead to changes in the team's attack, with spinners Keshav Maharaj and Simon Harmer potentially facing the axe.
Anrich Nortje, who bowled 40 overs in the first Test, is also in contention for a spot in the lineup. The batting order is also uncertain, with Ryan Rickelton set to take the gloves and potentially slide down the order.
Uncapped batsman Marques Ackerman and Matthew Breetzke are likely to play, with Ackerman potentially opening despite never having done so in first-class cricket, Cricket Australia said in a statement.
The second Test between South Africa and Australia will be held at St George's Park in Gqeberha from October 18-22. The series is part of the International Test Championship, with both teams looking to improve their standings.
The South African team has been dealing with injuries and inconsistent form, and the return of Rabada is expected to boost their chances. Australia's captain Pat Cummins acknowledged the threat posed by Rabada, saying he would need to be on guard against his former IPL teammate.
