Samsung Biologics Reports 21.2% Drop in Q3 Net Profit
Samsung Biologics' Q3 net profit falls 21.2% to 391.1 billion won
Samsung Biologics, a leading biotech firm, saw its third-quarter net profit decline by 21.2% to 391.1 billion won, or $295.2 million, Yonhap News Agency, South Korea's national news agency, reported.
The company's operating profit was 640.1 billion won, a slight increase from 633.5 billion won in the same period last year. Revenue, however, jumped 18.5% to 1.49 trillion won.
The boost in sales was attributed to the full-scale operations of four plants in Songdo, west of Seoul, increased production at its fifth plant, and contributions from its first U.S.-based biomanufacturing facility in Rockville, Maryland, which was acquired in March.
Samsung Biologics has secured $22 billion in cumulative contract orders this year and plans to further expand its contract development and manufacturing business.
The company has raised its annual sales guidance to 20%, up from the initial estimate of 15-20%, citing stable growth in its production plants.
Samsung Biologics is a major player in the biopharmaceutical industry, providing comprehensive development and manufacturing solutions as a contract development and manufacturing organization.
The company's growth is significant in the context of South Korea's efforts to expand its biotechnology sector.
The global biopharmaceutical market has been growing rapidly, driven by increasing demand for innovative treatments and therapies.
