Trump names Stephen Miller White House chief of staff, replacing Wiles

Susie Wiles will move to the Trump Political Operation, with Miller taking over the White House's top staff job on Nov. 9.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Friday that Stephen Miller will replace Susie Wiles as White House chief of staff, China's state news agency Xinhua reported.

Miller will become chief of staff starting Monday, Nov. 9, Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

Trump described Miller as "one of my most trusted advisors" in the same post.

Miller currently serves as deputy chief of staff in the Trump administration, a role he has held while working closely with the president.

Wiles will move to the Trump Political Operation, Trump said, without giving further details about her new role.

Miller has been widely regarded as the architect of the administration's hardline immigration enforcement and deportation policies.

The change comes just days after Republicans lost control of both chambers of Congress to the Democrats in the midterm elections.

The White House chief of staff typically manages the president's schedule, controls access to the Oval Office and coordinates the work of senior aides and cabinet members.

Wiles has held the post since Trump returned to office in January 2025, making her one of the most visible figures in the administration's day-to-day operations.

The latest shakeup in Trump's team follows a period in which the president has faced a more difficult political climate after the midterm losses, which removed Republican control of Congress.
