Work Begins on Upgrading DG Khan Airport for International Flights
Pakistan upgrades DG Khan Airport for international flights, a Rs. 5.5 billion project set for completion by January 2028, the Energy Minister said.
Work has started on upgrading the DG Khan Airport for international flights, a project costing Rs. 5.5 billion and expected to be completed by January 2028, Federal Minister for Energy Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari said.
The Civil Aviation Authority is actively working on-site, making steady progress on multiple fronts, including runway expansion, the Press Information Department (PID) said in a statement.
The project is part of four major development initiatives announced by the Prime Minister for DG Khan, including a cancer hospital, a long-term sewerage project, and road network widening and rehabilitation. The sewerage project is designed to meet the region's needs for the next 50 years, while improved roads will enhance commuting.
On electricity load management, the Federal Minister noted that load shedding is being conducted according to a schedule. He cited gas supply constraints due to geopolitical tensions as a reason for higher power generation costs. The government is introducing modern technology to combat power theft and reduce line losses, including APMS systems to detect theft and enable targeted enforcement.
The Federal Minister emphasized that load shedding will continue on feeders with 30 percent or higher AT&C losses, and no leniency will be shown toward electricity thieves or chronic defaulters. The government aims to reform the power distribution network and deliver better services to consumers.
