Yemen's Parliament Speaker Thanks Kuwait for Humanitarian Support
Yemen's Parliament Speaker Sheikh Sultan al-Barakani praises Kuwait's humanitarian support and cooperation in meeting with Kuwait's Ambassador to Yemen.
Yemen's Parliament Speaker Sheikh Sultan al-Barakani met with Kuwait's Ambassador to Yemen Falah al-Mutairi, expressing gratitude for Kuwait's longstanding humanitarian and development assistance, Saba news agency of Yemen's internationally recognised government said in a statement.
Al-Barakani highlighted the ongoing escalation by Houthi forces and their violations against civilians, particularly in Taiz, where repeated shelling and sieges have occurred. He condemned Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, emphasizing the importance of the Kingdom's security and stability to Yemen and the broader Arab region.
The Kuwaiti ambassador reaffirmed his country's commitment to supporting Yemen's legitimate government and people, pledging continued humanitarian and relief assistance. Kuwait aims to ease civilian suffering and promote peace and stability in the region.
Yemen has been embroiled in a conflict since 2014, when Houthi rebels seized control of the capital, Sana'a, and much of the country's northern regions. The conflict has resulted in significant humanitarian needs, with millions of Yemenis relying on aid to survive. Kuwait, along with other Gulf states, has played a key role in providing humanitarian assistance to Yemen.
The relationship between Yemen and Kuwait is built on historical and fraternal ties, with Kuwait providing significant support in various sectors, including education and healthcare. The meeting between al-Barakani and al-Mutairi underscores the ongoing cooperation and commitment to addressing the challenges faced by Yemen.
