Yemen's Minister of Water and Environment, Tawfiq al-Sharjabi, met with EU Ambassador to Yemen Patrick Simonnet in Amman, Jordan, to explore ways to strengthen cooperation on water, environmental protection, and climate change, the news agency of Yemen's internationally recognised government Saba (Government) reported.
The meeting reviewed EU-funded projects being implemented by international organizations such as the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
Al-Sharjabi emphasized the need for future EU funding to align with Yemen's national priorities and involve national institutions in project planning from the outset.
He highlighted key priorities, including ensuring water security, improving water and sanitation services, and protecting biodiversity.
The minister also stressed the importance of climate information and early warning systems, as well as the restoration of degraded ecosystems.
According to al-Sharjabi, ongoing development projects have not been affected by the current escalation by the Houthi group.
