An Se-young wins Korea Open to tie record of 11 titles
The world No. 1 also extended her winning streak over Akane Yamaguchi to 11 matches, and she has lost only once this season.
South Korea's An Se-young beat Japan's Akane Yamaguchi 2-1 to win the women's singles title at the Korea Open in Yeosu on Sunday, the national news agency Yonhap reported.
The world No. 1 won the final 21-12, 15-21, 21-16 at Jinnam Stadium, about 320 kilometers southwest of Seoul, where Yamaguchi is ranked second.
The victory was An's 11th international title of the year, matching the record set by men's singles player Kento Momota in 2019 and equaled by An herself in 2025.
This season, An has won eight BWF World Tour tournaments, along with gold medals at the Badminton Asia Championships, the BWF World Championships and the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
She has lost only one of 72 matches this season, a defeat to China's Wang Zhiyi in the All England Open final in March.
The win also stretched An's winning run over Yamaguchi to 11 matches.
An had considered skipping the Korea Open because of fatigue, but she decided to compete in front of home fans.
The Korea Open is the only South Korean event on the Badminton World Federation World Tour, the top professional circuit in the sport.
Yeosu, a port city on South Korea's southern coast, hosted the tournament at Jinnam Stadium, where the crowd was able to watch the country's leading player in person.
