Australia took control on day two of the second Test against South Africa, leaving the hosts at 5-97 at stumps, Cricket Australia said.

Scott Boland led the attack with 4-31 off 14 overs, while Matthew Renshaw took a stunning slips catch to dismiss Ryan Rickelton.

Temba Bavuma was unbeaten on 41 off 108 balls, but the Proteas were in trouble after losing four wickets for 40 runs. The match has been affected by weather, with only 43 overs of play possible across the first two days.

Australia hope to have Josh Hazlewood back for a stomach issue on the third day. The second Test is being played at St George's Park in Gqeberha, with the series broadcast exclusively in Australia on Kayo and Fox Cricket.

The second Test continues on day three, with Australia aiming to build on their momentum. The team made changes to their squad, with Boland replacing Nathan Lyon.

The hosts also made changes, with Matthew Breetzke and Marques Ackerman coming into the team.

The Test series between Australia and South Africa is part of the International Cricket Council's World Test Championship. The two teams are competing for a spot in the championship final, which will be played at Lord's in London.
