Australian cricketer Megan Schutt has been suspended for two matches by the Australian cricket board for breaching guidelines on the use of prescription medication, Cricket Australia said in a statement.

The suspension follows an incident during an out-of-competition period prior to the series against Bangladesh.

Schutt, 33, has accepted the penalty and apologized for her actions. The breach relates to a single incident of failing to adhere to requirements under the Sports Science and Sports Medicine guidelines with regard to prescription medication. Cricket Australia stated that the incident was not for performance-enhancing purposes and that Schutt will receive support from the organization.

The two-match ban includes all international and domestic cricket, with Schutt set to miss the third T20I against New Zealand and the opening game of the WBBL for Adelaide Strikers. Despite the suspension, Schutt expressed her regret for the incident and appreciation for the support she has received.

Schutt had played four matches during the investigation into her actions, taking 2 for 49 in a WNCL game for South Australia and 2 for 19, 4 for 36 and 4 for 16 in the three ODIs against Bangladesh. She was available for the first T20Is against New Zealand but was not selected.

The use of personal prescription medication for non-performance-enhancing purposes is allowed under CA and anti-doping authority rules, but there are strict guidelines around such prescriptions being for personal use only.

Megan Schutt's suspension highlights the importance of athletes adhering to guidelines and regulations set by their governing bodies. Cricket Australia's decision demonstrates its commitment to upholding the standards and responsibilities expected of players representing the game.

The incident occurred during an off-period for the Australian team, and Schutt has acknowledged her responsibility for following the guidelines. She will serve her suspension over the next two games she is available for.
