Israeli Forces Close Checkpoints, Tighten Restrictions Northwest of Ramallah
Israeli forces closed several checkpoints and tightened restrictions northwest of Ramallah, causing traffic congestion and obstructing movement.
Israeli forces closed the Nabi Saleh gate and the Atara checkpoint gate northwest of Ramallah on Thursday morning, the Palestinian News and Information Agency (WAFA) reported.
The closure of these checkpoints, along with tightened restrictions at the Aboud and Ein Sinya checkpoints, has caused severe traffic congestion and obstructed movement between nearby towns and villages.
The Nabi Saleh gate is a main access point for the village of Nabi Saleh and several surrounding villages, including Beit Rima, Deir Ghassana, Kafr Ein, and Qarawat Bani Zeid. Its closure has forced thousands of Palestinians to take lengthy detours to reach their destinations.
Local sources said Israeli forces subjected Palestinians to stringent searches at the Aboud checkpoint, adding to the severe movement restrictions in the area. The repeated checkpoint closures and military restrictions have made it increasingly difficult for residents to travel and reach their workplaces.
The Israeli military has been imposing restrictions on movement in the West Bank for years, citing security concerns. These restrictions have had a significant impact on the daily lives of Palestinians, affecting their ability to access work, education, and healthcare.
The West Bank has been under Israeli military occupation since 1967, with checkpoints and restrictions on movement being a persistent feature of life for Palestinians. The Israeli military says these measures are necessary to prevent militant attacks, while Palestinians see them as a form of collective punishment and a major obstacle to peace.
