Israeli forces detain Palestinian after settler incident near Yatta
The same day, Israeli forces searched two homes in Hebron city and fired tear gas at a livestock market, local sources said.
Israeli forces detained a Palestinian man in the southern West Bank on Friday after settlers let livestock loose on farmland near Yatta, the official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.
Local sources told WAFA that a group of settlers released their animals into Palestinian-owned fields and among fruit-bearing trees in the Hawara area, east of Yatta.
A local resident, Khalil Mahmoud al-Hamamdeh, and his son Omar tried to confront the settlers before Israeli troops moved into the area and detained Khalil.
In Hebron city, Israeli forces also raided the Jabal Johar and Jabal al-Rahma neighborhoods, where they broke into two homes, searched them and turned their contents upside down.
The forces then converted one of the houses into a military barracks, WAFA reported.
At the weekly livestock market in the southern part of Hebron city, troops attacked Palestinian residents and merchants and fired tear gas canisters to disperse the crowd.
Yatta is a town in the Hebron governorate in the southern West Bank, an area where Palestinian communities and Israeli settlements sit close together.
Hebron is the largest city in the southern West Bank, and tensions between settlers and Palestinian residents there have continued for years, with Israel having occupied the territory since 1967.
