Starc's nine-wicket haul in Cape Town lifted him back to No. 1, while South African spinner Simon Harmer rose nine places to seventh.

Mitchell Starc has regained the No. 1 ranking among Test bowlers, overtaking South Africa's Marco Jansen in the latest update released on Wednesday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said in a statement.

Starc's nine-wicket match haul in the third and final World Test Championship match against South Africa in Cape Town moved him ahead of Jansen, who slipped from the top spot.

Jansen took only three wickets in the Cape Town Test, six fewer than Starc, the ICC said.

Starc had first claimed the top Test bowling spot in August by ending the reign of India's Jasprit Bumrah, before Jansen took over after six wickets in the second Test in Gqeberha.

South African spinner Simon Harmer made the biggest gains among the top 10, rising nine places to seventh after taking six wickets in Australia's second innings at Newlands, where he was named Player of the Match.

Harmer now sits one spot ahead of teammate Kagiso Rabada.

Jansen lost the top Test bowling spot but reached a new career-high rating among Test all-rounders after his half-century in the third Test, increasing his lead at the top of that list.

In the batting rankings, Ryan Rickelton rose 25 spots to 23rd with a career-best rating, while Wiaan Mulder moved up seven places to 17th.

Australia's Cameron Green and Alex Carey each moved up to equal 19th among Test batters.

West Indies' Justin Greaves climbed 12 spots to equal 38th after his side beat Bangladesh by eight wickets in the first Test in Mirpur.

In one-day internationals, Pakistan's Shaheen Afridi rose one spot to fifth among bowlers, while Haris Rauf climbed five places to 24th after the ODI tri-series in Pakistan.

Fakhar Zaman moved up nine rungs to 37th among ODI batters.

India captain Shreyas Iyer gained two spots to seventh among T20I batters following his side's series win in New Zealand.

Afghanistan's Azmatullah Omarzai rose three places to third among T20I all-rounders after his Player of the Series performance in a series win over Zimbabwe in the UAE.
