Pakistan and Tajikistan have agreed to deepen their cooperation in multiple areas, the state broadcaster Radio Pakistan reported.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met with Tajik Prime Minister Qohir Rasulzoda in Dushanbe, where they reviewed bilateral ties and vowed to enhance collaboration in trade, investment, energy, connectivity, defence, and culture.

They also sought to increase people-to-people exchanges. Ishaq Dar reiterated Pakistan's commitment to working closely with Tajikistan to promote regional peace and economic integration.

The two leaders exchanged views on regional developments, highlighting the importance of cooperation on climate change and water security. Dar praised Tajikistan's independence anniversary, marking 35 years since it gained independence.

He also thanked Rasulzoda for the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of Government meeting.

The leaders discussed potential cooperation through Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), given Pakistan's expertise in disaster management.

Pakistan and Tajikistan have a long-standing relationship, with both countries being members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and sharing a common border with China.

Strengthening ties with Tajikistan is part of Pakistan's broader strategy to enhance regional cooperation and connectivity.

The SCO, which also includes China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Uzbekistan, aims to promote regional security, economic cooperation, and cultural exchanges.

The organisation's meetings provide a platform for member states to discuss pressing regional issues and explore opportunities for collaboration.
