Pakistan and Tajikistan have agreed to expand trade and economic cooperation, improve regional connectivity, and strengthen collaboration in energy, security and people-to-people exchanges, state broadcaster Radio Pakistan reported citing Foreign Ministry's statement.
The development comes during Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar meeting with Tajikistan’s Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of Government meeting in Dushanbe.
The two leaders discussed ways to deepen bilateral ties, reviewed regional and international developments, and underscored the importance of continued coordination at regional and multilateral forums to promote shared objectives of peace and prosperity.
Both sides highlighted the need to strengthen cooperation across key sectors, particularly energy, security and people-to-people contacts. No specific agreements or implementation timelines were announced.
Pakistan and Tajikistan have sought to deepen bilateral relations through greater economic engagement, trade and investment, and improved regional connectivity.
Enhanced cooperation between the two countries is also seen as an opportunity to strengthen economic links across Central and South Asia.
The SCO is a regional organisation focused on political, economic and security cooperation among its member states, including Pakistan, Tajikistan, China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Belarus and Uzbekistan.
For 2026-27, Pakistan holds the rotating chairmanship of the regional body's Heads of State. The country assumed the role from Kyrgyzstan in September 2026.
