Pakistan Seeks German Tech Support for Healthcare

Pakistan's President Asif Ali Zardari seeks German technological support to improve healthcare services

Pakistan - PID

President Asif Ali Zardari has urged German companies to adopt research-based, technologically driven solutions to improve health services in Pakistan, Press Information Department (PID) said in a statement.

The President made these remarks while meeting with executives from Siemens Health, including Executive Vice President Daniel Frisch and Veronika Pfister, head of Siemens government affairs, in Berlin.

Pakistan values German industrial, technological, and infrastructural support, particularly from Siemens, which has had a presence in the country for decades with over 100 employees in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad.

The Siemens delegation informed the President that they will soon visit Pakistan to sign MoUs with local partners in capacity building and technological domains in the health industry.

The company offers cooperation in areas such as cancer and stroke treatment, and President Zardari expressed satisfaction with the prospect of expanded bilateral partnership between Pakistan and Germany.

The President emphasized that affordable and high-quality healthcare is essential for citizens to realize their potential, and that Pakistan aims to provide broad and inclusive healthcare, particularly to impoverished people in remote areas.

Siemens' Executive Vice President acknowledged the positive outcomes of the Sindh Health Department's efforts and expressed readiness to enhance support through innovative solutions and technological applications.

President Zardari encouraged Siemens to deepen its collaboration in Pakistan and suggested diversifying investments across other social and industrial sectors.

He assured full institutional cooperation through the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC).

The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah, Senator Saleem Mandviwallah, Sindh Provincial ministers Sharjeel Memon and Jam Khan Shoro, and Ambassador of Pakistan to Germany Salman Sharif.

Pakistan's healthcare system faces significant challenges, including a shortage of medical professionals, inadequate infrastructure, and limited access to quality healthcare, particularly in rural areas.

The country's healthcare sector has been working to improve services, with efforts to increase access to healthcare, particularly for vulnerable populations.

Germany has been a key partner for Pakistan in various sectors, including healthcare and technology, and Siemens has been one of the leading German companies operating in Pakistan.

The company's presence in Pakistan reflects the country's efforts to attract foreign investment and expertise to improve its healthcare services.
