South Africa's batting lineup staged a comeback on Day 2 of the ICC World Test Championship match against Australia, despite a challenging start, the International Cricket Council (ICC) reported.

The hosts were reeling at 40-4, but a 52-run partnership between Temba Bavuma and Ryan Rickelton helped them recover. Bavuma remained unbeaten on 41 at the end of the day, with Wiaan Mulder supporting him.

Australia's Scott Boland took two more wickets to achieve his best Test figures against South Africa.

The day's play was affected by rain, with the start delayed by six hours and several overs lost. Australia leads the series 1-0, having won the first Test in Durban by 214 runs.

The second Test is being played in Gqeberha, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said in a statement.

Australia's bowlers made significant inroads, with Boland dismissing Aiden Markram and David Bedingham on the first day. He continued his form on Day 2, removing Bavuma and Marques Ackermann. Matthew Breetzke fell to Mitchell Starc, edging a delivery to Alex Carey.

The Australian team had taken a strong lead in the first Test, which concluded on October 13 in Durban.

The ICC World Test Championship is a premier international cricket competition, featuring the top nine Test-playing nations.
