South Africa achieved a remarkable turnaround to defeat Australia by an innings and 31 runs in the second Test, leveling the three-match series 1-1. The Proteas were struggling at 6-110 after two rain-interrupted days, but subsequent batting efforts of 99 and 295 saw them ride the Eastern Cape's vicious wind to victory in fading light.

Marco Jansen clinched the win in the final session, taking his sixth wicket for the match. Anrich Nortje, South Africa's fastest bowler, was limited to just 21 balls due to a groin injury. Travis Head was a standout for Australia, scoring 121 off 190 balls, while Scott Boland and Alex Carey also showed resistance with 40 off 166 and 37no off 69 respectively. Kagiso Rabada took 4-77 and Wiaan Mulder took 3-64, exposing Australia's familiar batting frailties. Steve Smith was dismissed attempting a drag shot, and Temba Bavuma's side celebrated a remarkable comeback. The series decider will be held in Cape Town next week, Cricket Australia said in a statement.

The win sets up a thrilling series finale, with the third Test to be held at Newlands in Cape Town from October 27-31. The second Test was played at St George's Park in Gqeberha, with almost two days lost to rain.

The Australian and South African teams have a long history of competition, with the two sides having played numerous Tests against each other over the years. The series has been closely contested, with both teams having had their share of victories and defeats.
