Trump sees progress in US-Iran talks on ending conflict
Trump also claimed the United States controls shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, while Fox News reported possible renewed strikes on Nov. 9.
Consultations between Washington and Tehran on ending the conflict had made progress, US President Donald Trump said on Saturday, Russia's state news agency TASS reported.
Trump told reporters, "We've made a lot of progress with Iran," adding that the two sides were still working through the issue.
Speaking about the talks, he said, "We're dealing with the Iranians," and that the outcome would become clear over time.
Trump also claimed that the United States controls shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
Separately, Fox News reported that the United States is considering resuming hostilities against Iran on Nov. 9.
The United States and Israel launched a war against Iran on Feb. 28.
In June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding calling for an immediate halt to hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon.
On the night of July 8, however, the United States resumed large-scale strikes against Iran, accusing it of violating agreements on the Strait of Hormuz.
About 25% of the world's oil trade and about 20% of its liquefied natural gas trade pass through the strait.
Later, the US administration signaled that it intended to stop using large-scale military force against Iran and instead try to pressure it with sanctions.
