Alice Capsey takes wicketkeeping role for unbeaten Sydney Sixers

The England batter has moved behind the stumps after Maddy Darke was ruled out, with the Sixers unbeaten in WBBL|12 so far.

England batter Alice Capsey is now keeping wicket for the Sydney Sixers in WBBL|12, a switch the club made after Maddy Darke was ruled out with injury, Cricket Australia said on Thursday.

Capsey, 22, had not kept wicket at senior level before this year, when she was named as England's back-up keeper ahead of the T20 World Cup in June.

She got her first real chance behind the stumps in September, when Amy Jones was rested for a series against Ireland, and England coach Charlotte Edwards said the role could eventually become a full-time one for her.

The Sixers had signed Capsey as one of two keeping options for the tournament, alongside the more experienced local player Darke.

With Darke out, the club has relied on Capsey, with 21-year-old local replacement Grace Lyons also available.

"It's a little bit of a different role to what I'm used to, but it's been really good fun," Capsey said ahead of the Sixers' match against the Melbourne Stars on Friday night.

She said she had not yet had to take a ball down the leg side standing up to the stumps, crediting the Sixers' bowlers.

Capsey is one of two England players at the Sixers this season, along with Sophia Dunkley, who presented her with her cap before the season opener against Brisbane Heat.

The Sixers have won both of their opening matches, beating Brisbane in a final-ball finish before a heavy win over the Hurricanes at Drummoyne Oval.

"The girls have been awesome at welcoming me in, and yeah, I've loved my time so far," Capsey said.

The Sixers play the Stars in Melbourne next, a side that both England players have represented before.
