The Sydney Sixers beat Hobart Hurricanes by 87 runs in a Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) clash on Sunday, Cricket Australia reported.

Sixers posted a formidable total of 8-196 on Sunday, thanks to Ash Gardner's explosive 124 off 60 balls, which included 19 boundaries and 10 sixes.

Gardner's outstanding performance with the bat was complemented by her impressive display with the ball, as she took three wickets and combined with 17-year-old quick Caoimhe Bray to restrict the Hurricanes to a paltry 109.

The Sixers' innings got off to a shaky start, with the team reeling at 3-6, but Gardner and Alice Capsey forged a crucial 176-run partnership to steer their team to a competitive total.

Gardner's century marked her second in the Women's Big Bash League, and she became the second player to achieve the feat of scoring a century and taking three wickets in the same game since Grace Harris.

The Hurricanes struggled to keep up, losing five wickets for 26 runs in the eighth over, and were never in contention, with Maddy Green scoring 42 not out off 33 balls.

The win propelled the Sixers to a 2-0 record, while the Hurricanes slumped to 0-2.
