Bangladesh Coach Simmons Urges Team to Seize Opportunity Amid Key Player Injury
Bangladesh coach Phil Simmons wants his team's batters to step up amid Litton Das's injury
Bangladesh coach Phil Simmons has called on his team's batters to seize the opportunity to perform with Litton Das struggling with fitness ahead of the first Test against the West Indies on October 28, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said in a statement.
Litton Das is yet to regain full fitness after a hip joint concern and has been ruled out of Bangladesh's ongoing ODI tri-series in the UAE. Simmons wants his team to adopt a team-first mindset and for other players to step up in case Litton is unfit.
"Well, we will always miss a player of that class, you know," Simmons said. "It's a gift, but again, it gives an opportunity to somebody else to come and hold that spot and help us to win the game."
The first Test of the ICC World Test Championship series will be played in Dhaka from October 28 to November 1, with the second Test starting on November 5 in Sylhet. Bangladesh currently sits fourth in the ICC World Test Championship standings.
Bangladesh have recently had success in the World Test Championship, defeating Pakistan 2-0 and drawing with Australia 1-1. Their last Test outing was a drawn match against Afghanistan earlier this month.
The West Indies, on the other hand, last played a Test series against Pakistan in July-August, which ended in a draw.
Bangladesh's upcoming series against the West Indies is crucial for their standings in the ICC World Test Championship.
The ICC World Test Championship is a premier international cricket competition that features nine teams competing over a two-year period. The tournament aims to promote Test cricket and provide a competitive and engaging format for fans.
Bangladesh's performance in the World Test Championship has been inconsistent, but they have shown resilience and determination in recent matches.
