Christa Pike files complaint over roach-infested shower in Tennessee

Pike says she is held in isolation in the infirmary and barred from group activities, meals and religious services.

Christa Pike, who lived through a failed execution attempt in September, complained on Tuesday that she has been made to clean a roach-filled shower, Russia's state news agency TASS reported.

In a filing with a Tennessee state court, Pike wrote that scrubbing the shower alone leaves her at serious risk of infection and further injury.

The complaint also describes her as still weak and in constant pain, with trouble moving her arms.

Pike said she is kept in the infirmary, apart from other inmates, which leaves her with almost no human contact.

She added that she is not allowed to join group activities, meals or religious services.

Pike survived two doses of the lethal injection drug on Sept. 30 at a prison in Nashville, Tennessee.

Her lawyers had warned before the procedure that she has a blood condition called thrombocytosis and that the drug could cause clots and extra suffering.

Pike was set to become the first woman executed in Tennessee in more than 200 years.

After the failed attempt, Governor Bill Lee ordered an investigation and halted another execution that had been scheduled for 2026.

Lethal injection is a common method of execution in the United States, and botched or delayed procedures have drawn scrutiny from courts and rights groups.
