Residents of Alyoshki who were evacuated to the Russian side have been reunited with their relatives, Kherson Region human rights commissioner Sergey Georgiev said on Tuesday, Russia's state news agency TASS reported.

Georgiev said some of the evacuees had asked to return to the Kherson Region to join their relatives.

He said he spoke with each family before the handovers.

"We essentially handed people over directly to their loved ones," Georgiev said, adding that this was to ensure they would be cared for and given housing.

Several evacuees remain in hospitals in the Republic of Crimea, where they are undergoing physical and psychological rehabilitation, he said.

Georgiev credited staff at the Alyoshki Central District Hospital, who he said treated the evacuees under shelling, but said many of them needed highly qualified and specialized medical care for a long time.

Several people were hospitalized immediately after arriving, and Georgiev said he remains in contact with the chief physicians of the medical facilities.

Russia and Ukraine had earlier agreed on a ceasefire in Alyoshki to carry out a humanitarian operation, a deal mediated by US First Lady Melania Trump.

The truce took effect at 4:00 a.m.

Moscow time on Oct. 27 to prepare and conduct the operation.

The humanitarian mission was carried out on Oct. 30, when several dozen tons of aid, including food, hygiene and sanitation products, fuel for power generators and other daily essentials, were handed out to residents, Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova said.

The operation was a joint effort by Russia, Ukraine and the United States, and everyone who wanted to leave the city was offered the chance to evacuate to either Russia or Ukraine.
