US First Lady Melania Trump called a humanitarian mission in Alyoshki, Kherson Region, successful on Sunday, Russia's state news agency TASS reported.

In a post on X, she said the ceasefire had ended and thanked Russia and Ukraine for their leadership and cooperation.

She wrote that "the mission was a success" and added that she hoped Oleshky, the alternative spelling of the city, would serve as a foundation for lasting peace between the two nations.

The ceasefire began on Oct. 27 and ran until Nov. 1, as planned, she said.

Russia's Armed Forces had introduced a pause in fighting in the Kherson direction from 4 a.m.

Moscow time on Oct. 27 to prepare for the humanitarian operation in the city.

On Oct. 30, residents received several dozen tons of food, hygiene products and generator fuel, Russian Human Rights Ombudswoman Yana Lantratova said.

Lantratova also said that anyone who wished to leave could do so without hindrance, either for other Russian regions or for Ukraine.

Earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called the humanitarian situation in Alyoshki critical on Sept. 21.

Peskov said food and medicines could not be brought into the city because of shelling and drone attacks from Kiev.

Russia claims Kherson Region as part of its territory, a claim Ukraine disputes, and the fighting there has disrupted aid to civilians in the area.
