Fenerbahce bring back Emre Belozoglu as first-team head coach
The 46-year-old former captain returns to the Istanbul club after guiding Kasimpasa to fifth place in the league this season.
Turkish Super Lig club Fenerbahce named Emre Belozoglu as their head coach on Tuesday, Turkey's state-run news agency Anadolu Agency reported.
The Istanbul club said in a statement submitted to Turkey's Public Disclosure Platform, known as KAP, that an agreement had been signed with him for the first-team role.
Turkish media reported that Belozoglu signed an 18-month contract, although the club's stock exchange filing did not specify the length of the deal.
Fenerbahce also welcomed its former captain on X, the US social media platform, with a message that he had always been part of the club's family.
"Welcome home, Emre Belozoglu!" the club said.
Belozoglu, 46, arrives from Kasimpasa, where he led the Istanbul side to fifth place in the Super Lig with 17 points from its first 10 matches this season.
The former Türkiye international played for Fenerbahce in three spells between 2008 and 2020, winning six trophies during that time.
He later served as the club's sporting director before taking charge of the first team as head coach in March 2021, a post he held until the end of the 2020-21 season.
During that earlier spell in charge, he recorded seven wins, two draws and one defeat in 10 matches, the club's record shows.
He subsequently managed Istanbul Basaksehir, Ankaragucu, Antalyaspor and Kasimpasa before returning to Fenerbahce.
Fenerbahce is one of Turkey's most successful clubs and is based in Istanbul, competing in the country's top-flight Super Lig.
