Two boys were shot by a sniper and a brother and sister were hurt by a landmine in separate incidents south of Taiz.

Middle East - Saba (Government)

Four children were hurt on Monday in Taiz Governorate by Houthi sniper fire and a landmine, the news agency of Yemen's internationally recognised government Saba (Government) reported.

Two boys, aged two and 10, were shot by a sniper stationed at Tabat Duhaih, in al-Maqdha village in the al-Aqroudh area of al-Misrakh district, the report said.

In a separate incident, a boy named Mohammed Abdulwali Ahmed Moghalles and his sister Rania were injured when a landmine exploded while they were herding sheep in al-Makaishah village, in the Qadas area of al-Mawasit district.

The agency said the landmine was planted by the Houthis, a claim the group has not been named as responding to in the report.

The incidents took place in al-Misrakh and al-Mawasit districts, south of Taiz Governorate, and the report named both districts as the scene of the injuries.

Taiz is one of Yemen's largest cities and lies in the southwest of the country, where government forces and Houthi fighters have clashed for years.

The Houthis control the capital, Sanaa, and much of the north, while the internationally recognised government is based in the south.

Landmines and sniper fire remain a danger to civilians in areas where fighting has taken place, and children are often exposed when they work or herd animals outside their homes.
