Israel orders seizure of land in Deir Abu Da'if near Jenin

The order covers 8.645 dunums and is linked to a settlement outpost near Ganim, according to a Palestinian official.

Israeli authorities issued a military order on Tuesday to seize 8.645 dunums of land in the West Bank village of Deir Abu Da'if, east of Jenin, the official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.

The order cites military purposes as the reason for the seizure, a move that WAFA described as a new step against Palestinian land in the Jenin Governorate.

Tariq Ighbaria, the official in charge of the settlements file in the Jenin Governorate, said the targeted land lies near the Ganim settlement, where Israel re-established a settlement outpost several months ago.

Ighbaria said the order is part of a series of measures targeting Palestinian-owned land near settlements and outposts across the governorate.

He said Israeli authorities often invoke military and security reasons to seize Palestinian land, which bars owners from reaching or using their property.

He said this process restricts the growth of Palestinian communities while allowing settlement growth at the expense of local land.

The Jenin Governorate is also seeing an escalation in military seizure orders, road construction linked to settlements, the leveling of farmland and the uprooting of trees, WAFA reported.

Land seizures and settlement expansion in the occupied West Bank have long been contested by Palestinians, and international law generally considers the settlements illegal.
