Israeli forces forced five Palestinian families to leave their homes in the Ras al-Ahmar area, southeast of Tubas, on Tuesday, the official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.

Abdullah Bisharat, head of the Atuf and Ras al-Ahmar Village Council, said the troops ordered the families to vacate their tents from 5 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Bisharat said the forces cited military exercises as the reason for the order.

The area has been subjected to ongoing assaults and restrictive measures for months, including blockades, road closures and attacks on residents and their property.

These measures have forced dozens of families to leave the community over the same period.

Tubas is the main city of the Tubas Governorate in the northern West Bank, which borders the Jordan Valley.

Large parts of the northern West Bank, including rural areas of the Jordan Valley, remain under full Israeli military control under the Oslo interim agreements of the 1990s.

Rights groups and United Nations agencies have documented the displacement of Palestinian herding communities in such areas, many of whose members depend on livestock and farming for their income.

Israeli military training areas in the West Bank have repeatedly been cited by authorities when residents are ordered off land, and rights groups have questioned such orders.
