NADRA explains why citizens can be listed as suspicious despite records
NADRA says contradictions or doubtful information in a record can lead to a citizen being listed as suspicious, but the listing is not a final decision.
A citizen whose data is already in NADRA's records can still be placed in a suspicious category under certain conditions, NADRA spokesperson Syed Shabahat Ali said in a podcast on Monday, according to ARY news.
He said the main reason is contradictions in the record or information that raises questions about the accuracy of a citizen's identity record.
During a review of records, some cases show inconsistent or unstable information, which can suggest that a person did not obtain their record properly or that a change was made at some stage that does not match available information, officials said.
Officials also said a citizen's record is sometimes found linked to family members with whom no relationship has been proven.
In such cases, family members can apply to NADRA stating that a person they do not even know has been added to their family tree.
Officials said being placed in the suspicious category is not necessarily a final decision that the citizen's identity record is wrong.
In some cases, the listing leads to further checks and clarification of the contradictions in the record, officials said.
NADRA maintains the national identity database used to issue computerised national identity cards and passports in Pakistan.
