Pakistan-Iran border crossings closed, trade activities suspended
Pakistan and Iran have closed their border crossings at Tiftan and Gwadar, suspending all trade activities including imports, exports, and transit.
Pakistan has closed its border crossings with Iran at Tiftan and Gwadar, suspending all trade activities, including imports, exports, and transit, according to local authorities. The move comes as a result of efforts to improve border management and address certain technical and legal issues, according to APP.
The closure affects bilateral trade between the two countries, which is valued at over two billion dollars annually. The border crossings are also used for transit trade, which will likely be impacted by the suspension.
Chagai Deputy Commissioner Bakhtyar Ismail Baloch stated that the closure is a temporary measure aimed at supporting counter-terrorism efforts.
"The border is not closed, only trade activities are suspended," a senior official in Tiftan said.
The Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry has advised traders to refrain from new purchases and bookings until further notice, citing the withdrawal of the EIF Waiver for imports from Iran.
