Pakistan Urges UN to Prevent Armed Conflicts Through Diplomacy
Pakistan calls for preventive diplomacy to protect women from war consequences

Pakistan has emphasized that preventing armed conflicts through diplomacy and peaceful dispute resolution is crucial for protecting women and girls from the devastating effects of war, the state broadcaster Radio Pakistan reported.
The country's representative to the UN, Ambassador Usman Jadoon, made this appeal during a Security Council debate on "Women, Peace and Security in the Next Quarter-Century: Fulfilling the Promise through Implementation".
He stressed that addressing the root causes of conflicts, including foreign occupation and denial of self-determination, is essential while ensuring women's active participation in peace efforts.
Ambassador Jadoon noted that despite progress in international commitments, a significant gap remains between these commitments and the realities faced by women in conflict situations.
He called for moving beyond mere commitments to achieving tangible results on the ground and highlighted Pakistani women's contributions to UN peacekeeping.
The ambassador also emphasized the need for sustainable financing, accountability, and safeguards against technology-facilitated gender-based violence.
He reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to women's full, equal, and safe participation in conflict prevention, peacekeeping, peacebuilding, and post-conflict recovery.
Ambassador Jadoon urged the UN Security Council to ensure women's meaningful participation in peace efforts.
Background
The Security Council's focus on women, peace, and security comes amid ongoing global conflicts.
The UN has been working to implement the Women, Peace and Security agenda, which includes four pillars: prevention, protection, participation, and relief and recovery.
