Pakistan's National Assembly Passes Resolution on Kashmir Dispute
Pakistan's National Assembly unanimously passes resolution emphasizing peaceful resolution of Kashmir dispute

Pakistan's National Assembly unanimously passed a resolution on the Kashmir dispute, emphasizing that lasting peace in South Asia depends on a just and peaceful resolution of the issue, in line with UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people, the state broadcaster Radio Pakistan reported on Tuesday.
The resolution, jointly tabled by Minister for Kashmir Affairs Engineer Amir Muqam and Chairman Parliamentary Committee on Kashmir Rana Muhammad Qasim Noon, called upon the international community, particularly the UN, to take meaningful steps towards implementing relevant UN Security Council resolutions and hold India accountable for human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
The House reiterated Pakistan's unwavering support to the people of Jammu and Kashmir in their struggle for self-determination, paying tribute to the courage, resilience, and sacrifices of generations of Kashmiri people, and strongly condemned continuing human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
The resolution rejected India's actions of 5 August 2019, aimed at altering the disputed status and demographic character of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, and called upon India to end human rights violations, cease measures aimed at altering the demographic character, and allow access to international human rights organizations.
The resolution reaffirmed that the final disposition of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute must be determined in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions and the freely expressed will of the Kashmiri people, and urged the government to continue diplomatic efforts at the UN, OIC, and other international forums to highlight the dispute and advocate the legitimate right of the Kashmiri people to self-determination.
The National Assembly also passed seven bills, including the Pakistan Council for Science and Technology Amendment Bill, 2025, and the Corporate Social Responsibility Bill, 2026.
The Kashmir dispute is a longstanding issue between Pakistan and India, dating back to the partition of British India in 1947. The UN Security Council has passed several resolutions calling for a peaceful resolution to the dispute, including Resolution 1947, which emphasizes the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people.
The National Assembly's resolution is seen as a reaffirmation of Pakistan's commitment to the Kashmir cause, and is likely to further strain relations between Pakistan and India. The international community, particularly the UN, is urged to play a role in resolving the dispute, which has been a source of tension between Pakistan and India for decades.
