Pakistan - Dawn News Urdu

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has dismissed rumors circulating on social media about a severe or record-breaking cold wave expected to hit the country from January 16 to 25.

According to the department, modern weather models and ground observations suggest that there is no expectation of an unusual or historical cold wave during this period. Temperatures are expected to remain within the normal winter range.

The Meteorological Department has urged the public, media, and all institutions to rely only on official weather forecasts, warnings, and advisories and to avoid spreading unverified information that may cause unnecessary panic.

The department's statement rebuts several social media posts claiming that a severe cold wave was expected to hit Pakistan from January 16 to 25. Former Federal Minister Umar Saif also shared a post on social media claiming that a rare polar vortex would bring severe cold to the country.

However, the Director of the National Weather Forecasting Center, Irfan Work, said that the polar vortex has no direct impact on Pakistan's weather.

For accurate information, the public is advised to follow official sources from the Meteorological Department, he said.
