Palestinian media chief, Egypt agree to boost joint media work
The two sides agreed to coordinate efforts to counter media disinformation and convey the Palestinian narrative to wider audiences.
Ahmad Assaf, General Supervisor of Official Media for the Palestinian Authority, met Egypt's Minister of State for Information Diaa Rashwan in Cairo on Tuesday, the official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.
Assaf briefed Rashwan on the latest political developments and the diplomatic efforts led by President Mahmoud Abbas to win international support for Palestinian rights and an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
Assaf also described conditions in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including Jerusalem, saying Israeli attacks on civilians and displacement operations were escalating.
He stressed that media institutions must counter the Israeli narrative and keep the public informed about developments in Palestine.
Rashwan welcomed the visit and said the two countries should strengthen media relations, while reaffirming Egypt's support for Palestinian rights.
At the end of the meeting, the two sides agreed to exchange expertise and information, maintain regular coordination between their media institutions and counter disinformation campaigns.
Assaf also met Ambassador Alaa El-Din Zakaria Youssef, chairman of the board of Egypt's State Information Service, to discuss media coordination and efforts to counter Israeli disinformation in Arab and international media.
The meeting was attended by Palestinian diplomatic and media officials, along with officials from Egypt's Ministry of Information.
