Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy discussed the Palestinian cause and wider regional developments with Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar in Cairo on Tuesday, the official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.

The talks took place at the Arab League headquarters, where Fahmy called for the Gaza ceasefire to be consolidated.

He also urged that humanitarian aid reach Gaza in sufficient amounts, on a sustained basis and without obstruction.

Fahmy rejected any displacement of the Palestinian people from their land, and he said international efforts should be stepped up to end what he described as the illegal Israeli occupation.

He called for implementation of the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Fahmy said the goal should be pursued in line with relevant international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.

He further warned against continued colonization, annexation plans and unilateral Israeli measures, which he said undermine prospects for peace.

The Arab League, founded in 1945 and based in Cairo, is a regional body of Arab states that has repeatedly backed a Palestinian state along the 1967 lines.

The Arab Peace Initiative, first proposed by Saudi Arabia in 2002, offers Israel normal relations with Arab states in return for withdrawal from occupied territories and a just settlement for Palestinian refugees.
